Traffic Stop Yields Multiple Charge Drug Arrest

Atarah Wright Palatka FL: On Thursday March 23, 2017 at approximately 1:05 am, Sergeant Nick Vieira was patrolling in the area of Heidt Road and Silver Lake Drive in Palatka when he observed a silver 2004 Chevy Trailblazer with only one functioning headlight. After conducting a traffic stop, Sergeant Vieira determined the driver, 24-year-old Atarah Zeresh Wright, did not have a valid driver’s license. While being questioned outside the vehicle, Wright asked Sergeant Vieira to retrieve her wallet from between the driver’s seat and the center console. Upon retrieving the wallet Sergeant Vieira immediately saw a baggie containing a white powdery substance appearing to be cocaine protruding from an outer pocket of the wallet in plain view. The substance field tested to be cocaine and Wright was placed under arrest. A search incident to the arrest also revealed 2 grams of methamphetamine and multiple hypodermic needles within the vehicle.

Wright was transported to the Putnam County Jail where she was searched prior to being booked into the facility. During the search two and one half dilaudid pills and another hypodermic needle were discovered in her vagina. Wright was booked on two felony counts of the possession of cocaine, one felony count of the possession of drugs, one felony count of the possession of methamphetamine, one felony count of smuggling contraband, two misdemeanor counts of the possession of drug equipment and one misdemeanor moving traffic violation. Wright is currently being held on a $14,000 bond.

East Palatka Man Charged after Marijuana Growing Operation Found in Home

Peter Vammen East Palatka FL: On Wednesday March 15, 2017 detectives with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Drug and Vice Unit along with Officer’s assigned to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force went to 300 Michelle Avenue in East Palatka in response to an anonymous tip of an indoor marijuana grow. At the house contact was made with the homeowner, 60-year-old Peter James Vammen, who consented to a search of the residence. Inside, investigators discovered 99 marijuana plants growing in two separate rooms of the home. Processed marijuana and numerous items of paraphernalia were also discovered.

After being interviewed, Vammen was placed under arrest and transported to the Putnam County Jail where he was booked on one felony count of producing marijuana, one misdemeanor count of the possession of marijuana and one misdemeanor count of the possession of drug equipment. Vammen is currently being held on a $3,500 bond. The street value of the marijuana confiscated is estimated to be $275,000.

Palatka Man Arrested is Facing Multiple Drug and Weapons Charges

Dexter Brown Palatka, FL: On March 9, 2017, Detectives with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Drug and Vice Unit arrested thirty-five-year-old Dexter Cedrick Brown. Detectives went to Brown’s residence at 502 East Bay Street in furtherance of a drug investigation. During the investigation detectives seized a bag containing approximately six grams of crack cocaine, a loaded .45 caliber handgun, .45 caliber ammunition, .223 caliber ammunition and drug scales. Brown is a convicted felon, having previously been convicted of possession of cocaine with intent to sell within 1000 feet of a housing project.

Because the residence in which the narcotics were found during this investigation is located within 1000 feet of the James A. Long Housing Complex, Brown was again charged with possession of cocaine with intent to sell within 1000 feet of a public housing complex. Brown was also charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon.

Brown is currently incarcerated in the Putnam County Jail on a $25,000.00 bond.

Carraway Area Missing Endangered Adult

James PriceUPDATE: Mr. Price has been located and is safe at home.

On Wednesday March 1, 2017 at approximately 8:30 pm, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office was notified that 82-year-old James Aaron Price was missing. Price was last seen at approximately 5:00 pm in the Carraway area where he was walking East bound toward Palatka on the “Rails to Trails” bicycle path which parallels State Road 100. Price is a white male who has blue eyes and white hair, he is five feet tall and weighs 135 pounds. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a faded blue/green jacket and red hat. Price has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and is considered to be endangered. Anyone who may have seen Price or have any information regarding his whereabouts is asked to contact the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office at 386-329-0801.

Woman Hit by Gunfire in East Palatka

East Palatka FL: On Saturday February 25, 2017 at approximately 3:30 am, Putnam County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies responded to the Kangaroo located at 241 South Hwy 17 in East Palatka in reference to the report of a person being shot. At the Kangaroo they made contact with a 29-year-old female victim who was suffering from a minor head wound. The injury occurred when a single shot was fired into her car from another vehicle as she were traveling South bound on State Road 207 approaching Hwy 17 in East Palatka. There was an adult female, an adult male and a one-year-old child in the vehicle with the victim at the time of the incident. No other injuries occurred. The suspected shooter has been described as a black male and the suspect vehicle as a dark or black SUV. The suspect vehicle was last seen North bound on Hwy 17.

The victim was transported to Orange Park Medical Center and was reported to be in stable condition. At this time the motive for the shooting remains unclear. Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit detectives are actively investigating the incident.
