Welaka, FL: On Monday, July 22, 2013, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Animal Services, received information regarding a possible malnourished dog in the 100 block of Beecher Springs Road.
The investigation revealed that a passerby noticed a deceased dog lying near a trash collection site along with four puppies, one of which was also deceased. The Good Samaritan collected the three remaining puppies, and took them home to care for them.
Further investigation revealed that the pit bull / hound mix and her puppies, may have been neglected and/or abused as they were severely emaciated. Sergeant Tom Swart began investigating the incident and located the suspect, identified as Deondra Milledge.
On Tuesday, July 23, 2013, Milledge was arrested and booked into the Putnam County Jail on 5 counts of Animal Cruelty. Milledge was given a bond in the amount of $5,020.00.
The investigation continued after Milledge named her boyfriend, Ryan Flynn as the person who placed Sasha and her puppies by the side of the road. A warrant was issued for Flynn’s arrest and on Monday, July 29, 2013, Flynn was located hiding out in the Welaka area by Chief Charlie Piwowarski with the Welaka Police Department. Flynn was turned in to the PCSO and transported to the Putnam County Jail where he was booked on two counts of Causing Cruel Death by Pain and Suffering to an Animal, and three counts of Abandonment of an Animal. Flynn was given a bond in the amount of $4,520.00.
Only one puppy, named “Beecher” has survived. His new family is caring for him and he now has his own Facebook page called “Hope for Beecher”.
