Crescent City, FL: On Sunday, July 28, 2013, at approximately 1:15 a.m., Sergeant Robert Nelson with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office was patrolling the area of Citron Avenue and South Highway 17 when he observed a speeding vehicle.
Sergeant Nelson followed the vehicle a short distance, confirming with his radar that the vehicle was traveling well above the posted speed limit. Sergeant Nelson initiated a traffic stop by activating his overhead lights, but the vehicle did not stop.
Sergeant Nelson pursued the vehicle, which reached speeds of 60 miles per hour. The vehicle suddenly veered off the roadway, drove into a yard where the driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
Sergeant Nelson began to pursue the subject, identified as Rubin Perry, but realized there was a juvenile left behind in the vehicle. Sergeant Nelson was able to locate Perry inside a residence at 409 Main Street.
Perry was placed under arrest for Fleeing and Attempting to Elude Law Enforcement and Child Endangerment. Perry also had an active warrant for his arrest from another county. Perry was also issued two uniform traffic citations for Fleeing and Attempting to Elude Law Enforcement and Driving while License Suspended.
